Let me guess… you’re a Hot Yoga junkie?

You practice yoga every day, you hang out in the yoga section at the bookstore; and at work, you spend most of your time surfing yoga Web sites—sound familiar?

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.

When I first discovered Hot Yoga, I remember I’d sneak out of the office early just to catch my favorite teacher’s classes; and very quickly, I realized that life as I knew it was changing, and there was no point in fighting it any longer.

Within a few short months, yoga became the most important focus in my life, and as crazy as it seemed at the time, I quit my job, became a Yoga Alliance certified teacher, and the rest is history.

But I was so nervous!

When I enrolled in my first yoga teacher training, I had a "good" corporate job in publishing, and I’d only been practicing yoga for a short period time.

My body was so stiff, and I didn’t know if I was going to make it. But you know what? Training to become a teacher actually made me a much better student, and with true passion and hard work, it’s amazing how quickly you can transform your body and your life.

I didn’t think it was possible, but after one month of studying and living yoga so intensely, I felt stronger and healthier than ever before; and most importantly, I was ready to teach and had the skills needed to make me very employable.

If you’d told me back when I first started that I would someday become a teacher trainer, that I’d own and operate my own studios in three different countries, and that I’d teach more than 10,000 students… I would have laughed out loud.

But this is exactly what’s happened to me, and stories like mine are becoming increasingly common for students coming out of our training academy. Yoga is booming, and there’s a huge demand for skilled and passionate teachers worldwide.

So if you love yoga and are excited to share your passion with the world, if you like the idea of earning a full-time salary working part-time hours, and if you love to travel in the company of health-conscious, open-minded people…

… then today might just be the beginning of a whole new lifestyle for you. Maybe it’s time for you to become a certified Hot Yoga teacher.

Top 5 Reasons to Become a Hot Yoga Teacher…

#1 - Inspire Students & Change Lives – There are very few jobs that provide you with the opportunity to impact the lives of so many people on a daily basis. Every time you get up in front of a class of yoga students, you’ll have the opportunity to truly inspire people. That’s an amazing gift and a rare and rewarding job to have.

#2 - Deepen Your Practice – Students come to class looking for guidance, but they also give back to you (as the teacher) an incredible amount of energy and insight. You’ll be amazed how much you learn from teaching yoga. Teaching is a powerful way to deepen your own practice and understanding of yoga.

#3 - Enjoy a Flexible Schedule – Most yoga teachers I know only work three-to-four hours each day, and the rest of their time is theirs to do as they please. If you’re like me, you have tons of other interests in life that you haven’t had time to pursue because you’ve been working full-time, often in a job that you’re not passionate about. After I started teaching yoga, I finally had time to do freelance writing for magazines, play guitar, and I even wrote a novel during my first year as a teacher.

#4 - Earn a Good Salary – Years ago, most yoga teachers hardly earned enough to get by; but today, Absolute Yoga Academy certified yoga teachers are highly specialized and highly valued employees who are paid very well for their work. While yoga teaching is not likely to make you rich, you can live a financially comfortable and exciting life as a teacher. For me, I never imagined the personal and financial freedom I’ve realized today, much more so than I had in my former life.

#5 - Live and Breathe Yoga – Let’s face it, living a healthy lifestyle is not easy. When I started down the path of yoga, all my old friends were living very toxic lifestyles. When I became a yoga teacher, that all changed. My new friends and co-workers loved yoga, and just like me, they were committed to healthy living. There’s nothing more powerful than having a positive peer group, and for many teachers, this often leads to a revolution in your personal health and lifestyle.

What Students Are Saying...

This is Not Your Typical Teacher Training Course

The Absolute Yoga teacher training program was originally developed to meet the staffing needs of our own rapidly expanding, international studio group. We needed more teachers, and the graduates from the other training programs on the market were simply not at the level we required.

Most studios are constantly looking for great teachers to add to their team, and from this need, the Absolute Yoga teacher training program was born.

Our first courses were invitation only, and the sole purpose was to turn our most dedicated students into full-time working teachers to serve their communities. Even now, years later, 70 percent of Absolute Yoga’s teaching team comes directly from our own training programs.

Here’s why this is important for you…

Many courses do a great a job of creating a fun yoga holiday experiences where students deepen their practice and make friends, but the Absolute Yoga teacher training takes it to a whole new level professionally. This is our history and our tradition, so we attract and support a very different kind of student.

This course consists of a strategically-planned curriculum that turns yoga students into yoga teachers in just four weeks’ time—every time—and our successful graduates and our successful studios are proof of the program’s efficacy.

Absolute Yoga´s teachers work in studios, gyms, health resorts, and many even open their own studios all over the world. Today, there are more than 1,000 Absolute Yoga teachers in 48 countries and counting.

From the United States and Canada, to Australia and the United Kingdom, to Europe, Asia, and Africa, Absolute Yoga has claimed its place as the fastest-growing style of Hot Yoga in the world.

But Will I Really Learn How to Teach?

The yoga training industry is very strange in that most teacher training courses do not actually teach you how to teach. If you talk to any yoga studio owner, you’ll find they rarely hire new graduates because, in most cases, new grads from most schools are just not ready to teach a class yet.

With Absolute Yoga, we take a completely different approach—100 percent practical and career focused. Our graduates are qualified, competent, and employable from the day they leave our school.

Studios all over the world come to us to recruit our graduates to teach in their studios, and at the end of each course, we get calls and emails from studios wanting to hire our teachers. Many people don’t realize this, but Absolute Yoga continues to recruit our own teachers directly from our own graduating classes as well.

Remember, Absolute Yoga Academy started as a professional training school for our own staffing needs—and that hasn’t changed. Our course is 100 percent practical and our graduates are ready and able to teach the moment they leave the course.

But there is a catch…

You need to be prepared to work and study hard during the course. It would be a mistake to come to an Absolute Yoga Academy course thinking it’s a month-long holiday. Our courses are vigorous and challenging, both mentally and emotionally; and many people say our training is one of the most challenging things they’ve ever done.

You’ll experience a complete transformational journey. From day one, when you’re unable to teach at all, to the last day of the course when you've mastered our 50-pose sequence, its anatomy, instructions and modifications; and you can literally stand up and teach a full class. That’s a huge accomplishment, one that would normally take at least six months, and this is a lifelong skill you’ll carry with you forever.

About the Absolute Hot Yoga Series

Let’s get sweaty! Absolute Hot Yoga is a high-energy series of 50 classic yoga poses in a fixed sequence that promotes balance, strength, flexibility, and overall wellness. The heat allows you to stretch deeply, cleanse your body, and calm your mind.

One of the unique things about the Absolute Hot Series is that it’s great for beginners, intermediate, and even advanced students. The series can be adapted to all levels, so it doesn’t get boring.

As a teacher, one of the big challenges with some classic Hot Yoga sequences is that students “outgrow” the series and stop coming to class after 6-12 months. Absolute Hot Yoga is different. It was designed with the lifetime student in mind, so we see that students remain engaged and excited about Absolute Hot Yoga 2-3x’s as long as with most other Hot Yoga series.

Plus, there are very logical and easy-to-apply advanced variations so even the most senior students will love this sequence

CPR for Yoga Teachers (level I)

Most teachers work with hundreds of students per month and thousands of students per year. Yoga is extremely safe, but simply due to the sheer number of people you come in contact with, someday, you’ll likely experience a health emergency situation of some kind, and you’ll want to be prepared.

What happens if someone slips-and-falls? What about a heart attack? How do you handle dehydration or loss of consciousness? As a yoga teacher, you’re not trained to treat or diagnose any kind of medical condition, but you need to be able to handle an emergency situation swiftly and appropriately.

During this hands-on module, you’ll learn the fundamentals of resuscitation, treating wounds, defibrillation, and much much more. Through “mock” emergency run-throughs, you’ll gain the confidence and real-world practice needed to help you handle potential situations in the best possible way.

About Our Training Facilities

Absolute Sanctuary is literally a yoga dream-come-true. The idea was to build a tropical island destination training center specifically for Hot Yoga training programs. While many other courses are conducted in hotel conference rooms or outdoor platforms, Absolute Yoga recognized early on that the training environment is an extremely important factor to facilitate effective learning.

The Facilities Include

The resort is big enough to support the course, but small enough so it feels cozy. The infinity pool is the “hub” of the resort during non-yoga practice times, and there is also a juice bar, a steam room, a full spa, exercise facilities, and a lounge.

  • 2 Huge Yoga Studios (60 pax capacity) with sea and jungle views, natural light, mirrored walls, custom heaters and air conditioning.
  • A healthy, yoga-student-friendly restaurant and lounge
  • Infinity Swimming Pool
  • Juice Bar
  • Steam Room
  • Full Spa
  • Exercise/Fitness Center

After a long day practicing and learning, nothing feels better than a healthy meal and a dip in the pool. We’ve discovered that if you eat well, sleep well and are well taken care of, you have a better time—and you learn more too.

The Accommodation

The rooms at Absolute Sanctuary are simple and lovely. Most students share a room (very economical option) and a limited number of private rooms are available as well.

  • Air conditioners
  • Hot water
  • Flat-screen televisions
  • Mini-refrigerator
  • Private bathroom
  • Small terrace
  • Telephone
  • Free Wi-Fi (throughout resort)

The Food at The Resort

The food at Absolute Sanctuary is homemade, and during you course, you’ll enjoy three buffet-style meals daily. The food is Thai-influenced, but also includes European and American flavors, Indian and even Moroccan dishes. Common breakfasts include: fresh tropical fruit, homemade porridge, eggs, toast, juices, coffees, teas, and vegetables. Lunches and dinners are more savory with Thai noodles, curries, soups, wraps and stir fries.

Vegetarian options are always available (and clearly marked), and for lactose or gluten sensitive people, Asia is an easy place to eat as milk and wheat are not very common here. Aside from the meals included in your package, you can always order a la carte juices, smoothies and coconuts at the juice bar, or any extra food items from our restaurant’s award-winning menu.

A Day in the Life of a Trainee…

Want to know exactly what’s going to happen during the course? Let us walk you through a typical day. You’ll start each morning with for your first yoga class at 7:30 a.m. (we practice before breakfast as its much better for Hot Yoga).

We’ll begin the day at the Jungle Yoga Studio (aptly named because you can see the jungle and the sea in the distance). The sun is just coming up, and the view is spectacular. The morning class is the most structured class of the day. This class is very much “by the books” and is designed to help you learn by experiencing the series and practicing as a student.

The first 30 minutes, we practice meditation or breathing practices, and then we go right into the 90-minute class.

After class, you’ll have an hour and a half for a breakfast break. Meals are served buffet-style, and there’s always fresh fruit, toast, yogurt, coffee, teas, and cereals.

The first workshop begins at 11:00 a.m. and the focus is on fundamentals. You’ll need to get grounded in the basics before we dive deep into hands-on teaching skills. Topics covered include: yoga history and anatomy, philosophy and methodology.

Once you understand the big picture of yoga, then we can focus specifically on Hot Yoga, the style of yoga in which you’re going to become an expert in. Lunch is at 1:00 p.m. and the menu changes daily, but common selections include homemade soups and breads, fresh salads (locally-grown greens), stir fries, local fish and chicken, Thai favorites, and wraps.

NOTE: There are always selections for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.

At 2:00 p.m., the second workshop of the day starts with a focus on teaching skills. Your voice is your greatest teaching tool in Hot Yoga, so that’s where we put the most emphasis. From the first day, you’ll be practicing teaching, and that continuous practice is what leads to such great results.

Your second class of the day is in the afternoon, after your lunch is settled. This class is often less structured and more workshop-like in nature, and the twice a day repetition is invaluable to muscle memory and "learning by doing."

After class, we have a long dinner break, and most evenings, we gather for an hour after dinner for group meetings, yoga films, specialty lectures, or just to share and review the learning from that day. Some evenings you’ll have free time for self-study, but for the most part, from 7:30 in the morning until 10:00 at night, you’re in "yoga training mode" so your days are very full.

You’ll practice six days on, and one day off—so you’ll have three completely free days during the course which is a great time to explore the island, get a Thai massage, and just relax. Because the days are so full, the time really flies, but you’ll find yourself making great friends and having life-changing experiences along the way. It truly is a journey from start to finish, and it’s one that you’ll never forget.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: The truth is, you’ll probably never “feel” completely ready. We always advise that the best time to train is when you’re most passionate about learning. The recommended minimum practice experience is 6-12 months.
A: No, Bikram Yoga is a trademarked brand, like Nike or Coca-Cola, and it’s also the name of a yoga teacher. We are not affiliated or associated in any way with either the brand or the man, Bikram.
A: Classic Hot Yoga sequences usually contain 26 yoga poses and 2 breathing exercises. Absolute Hot Yoga contains 50 postures and was designed to add in some missing elements from classic sequences specifically: pose variety, core work, upper body strength, and hip openers. Even though the class sequence is different, the truth is that most Hot Yoga classes are more similar than different. Poses are practiced one-at-a-time, you look in the mirror when you practice, and the teacher uses her voice (more than her body or demonstrations) to lead you through the class safely and effectively. Most of our students come from classic Hot Yoga style studios—and that’s great! If you have a classic Hot Yoga background, you’ll love the Absolute Yoga series and you’ll do great.
A: No! Your career is up to you. Most of our graduates end up teaching multiple styles of yoga including classic: Hot Yoga, vinyasa yoga, and yin yoga—many within their first year of graduating. The most important thing is to establish a firm base in a fixed series, in our case, Absolute Hot Yoga; and from there, it’s quite simple to learn additional series.
A: It’s important to remember that getting teaching jobs is like getting any job. It depends on you, your interview, your experiences, and your character. Absolute Yoga regularly hires and helps others hire from our graduating classes, but we cannot possibly guarantee employment in the same way a university cannot guarantee employment. That said, we have not had one single graduate who was serious about teaching professionally who was not able to find work. In some cases, teachers wish they had more classes or would prefer to teach in a different location or different facility, but those who want to teach are finding jobs. Right now, there are more opportunities available than teachers so our graduates do very well for themselves in the job market.
A: Most professional, fulltime courses are four weeks long (like ours). There are some 7-21 day courses out there, but for a Yoga Alliance course, it’s not possible to complete your required training hours in less than 4 weeks. With thousands of graduates, we have tried various formats, and the four-week period seems to be the perfect amount of time. The extremely long courses (two-to-three months, for example) usually have hundreds of students per course, so the added time is not added study or training, it's just extra time needed logistically to make the practice teaching happen for such a large group. The best courses in the world have less than 50 students and consist of 200 hours of in person training.
A: No, we’re very strict about our student-to-teacher ratio. We have a maximum of 15 students for each teacher, and often as few as 10 students for each teacher. In those huge courses, the students are “lost in the crowd” and no one even knows your name. Our courses vary in size, but are typically 30-45 people with a huge teaching team and assistants to support you.
A: No, we do not have any kind of forced renewal fees or “dues” with Absolute Yoga Academy. Many of our students do return for future courses, but it’s not in any way required.
A: We have had students from literally all over the world. A typical course will represent 15 or more countries. It’s truly and international environment, and everyone is open and excited to learn from each other and share their unique background.
A: Yes, the course instruction is in English, and everyone who joins the course speaks English. Some people are native English speakers, but usually at least 50 percent of the course is speaking English as a second language. Our teaching team and staff are also international, so we welcome people of all levels of language ability, and we are very used to working with people from many different cultures.
A: Yes, Thailand is extremely safe and extremely easy for travel. Thai people are absolutely wonderful. It’s the “land of smiles,” and you’ll experience that from the moment you arrive. Even most women travelers traveling alone report that they feel safer in Thailand than they would in any other country. We’ve been hosting international students for years, so we also have systems and support in place to help you with anything you might need whether it be a prescription from the pharmacy or a call back home.
A: Yes, Koh Samui is a well-developed island. There are two big department stores with everything from toiletries to t-shirts, there are hundreds of pharmacies, internet cafés, clothing stores, and restaurants. ATM’s are everywhere, and you can use credit card and debit cards most places.
A: Yes, Absolute Yoga Academy has an excellent reputation internationally, but more importantly, your Yoga Alliance registration is the international standard for teachers everywhere. Whether you live in New York, London, Sydney or Bangkok, everyone knows Yoga Alliance.

"I Dare Say, I am Ready to Teach!"
I dare say, I am ready to teach! One of the best things I learned was to speak in front of a group. Some days were up and others were down, but I really enjoyed learning to speak in front of the class. I could not believe it when I taught a 90-minute class!

"A Life-Changing Experience!"
Training to become a teacher has been a life-changing experience for me in so many ways. It has helped me understand my own practice and difficulties as well as those of other students. We are all unique with different bodies and life theories, but yoga unites us together.

"I’m About To Teach My First Class..."
Before starting yoga, I worked long hours in a stuffy office. Looking back on it, the work wasn’t healthy for me. I was always stressed and unsatisfied. I decided to try yoga. I will never forget my first yoga class—how challenging, refreshing, and invigorating the whole experience was. It changed my life! After practicing for 6 months, I decided to take a chance and join the teacher training course... and now, I’m about to teach my first class! I feel so lucky because now, I’m now able to share something I love with others. This common energy and connected passion is what inspires me. It’s contagious!

The teacher training was very challenging, but very rewarding. It wasn’t easy, but I walked away not only stronger in my own personal practice, but also prepared to teach. For anyone interested in teaching yoga or exploring yourself, I’d highly recommend this course. The training together with healthy and delicious food can make it a life-changing event.

"There Were So Many Great Things About The Training That I Can’t Stop Talking And Writing About..."
It was an experience, a chapter of my life, a personal challenge, a change of lifestyle...it was great getting to meet people and building new friendships with the other trainees. I can’t tell you how scary-yet at the same time exciting- it was when I knew we had to teach on our own!
